Fund Raising Events - 2010 The regulars of the Blue Anchor Inn at Fraddon, including Adam's paternal grandparents, Pam and Richard Best, and his Great Grandfather Alan Cole, raised £360 from a series of Euchre drives. The card game is very popular with several members of Adam's family, who frequently hustle each other out of a few pence at family gatherings.
Mr Gary Holland celebrated his 50th birthday this year and invited his friends and family to donate to Adam's Fund in lieu of presents. His generous gesture resulted in a total contribution to the fund of £150. We would like to thank both Mr Holland and everyone who helped him support the Fund in this way.
Once again, the Fund received a substantial boost from one of Pam and Richard Best's bingo nights at the Indian Queens Working Men's Club. These evenings are rapidly becoming a fixture of the Indian Queens Social Calendar. Pam (Adam's paternal grandmother) is constantly encouraged by the local bingo fans to organise another one.
The Ladies Thursday Club from Pool in Cornwall recently held a charity concert at the beautiful Pool Methodist Church, with the proceeds going to Adam's Fund. Although it was too late in the evening for Adam himself to go, his parents and older brother William all attended and enjoyed themselves thoroughly. There were splendid musical performances from the award-winning Illogan Sparnon Silver Band under the leadership of Clifford Bolitho and also from the wonderful Agnes Jane on the organ. David Rashleigh and Gareth Rees delighted and moved us with their fine singing and there were laughs aplenty from Stella Rule with a selection of humorous Cornish stories. The evening was expertly compèred by Graham Carter who rounded off the evening by presenting us with over £400 for the Fund. We would like to thank all those who performed in or attended the concert and the officers and members of the Ladies Thursday Club for their support of Adam. We were particularly touched that they made a separate presentation to William, as Adam takes up so much of our time and energy and inevitably we cannot always give William the time and attention he deserves. William himself was delighted not only with his gift but also with the interval refreshments as, delicious though they were, there were plenty left over and so he went home with a doggy bag fit for the Hound of the Baskervilles!
In April, the Rock Lodge of the Royal Antidiluvian Order of Buffaloes made a very generous donation of £420 to Adam's Fund from their 2009 Appeal Fund. The presentation evening took the form of a Casino Night. Although Adam himself was not able to attend (as it was well past his bedtime) several members of his family did and there was a certain amount of friendly rivalry as they placed their bets at the Blackjack and Roulette tables. A particularly keen player was Adam's Great Grandfather, Alan Cole. A long-time member of the RAOB, Alan gambled enthusiastically (some said recklessly) despite being only a few months short of his 90th birthday. However, when the chips were counted at the end of the evening, it was Adam's cousin Patricia who took the family honours.
We would like to thank all the members of the RAOB both for their kind donation and for making the presentation evening such an enjoyable experience for us all.
